Despite the fact that the organization manages squanders, not all squanders can be of the correct quality. For an effective gracefully chain the board, there ought to be esteem assurance instrument set by the organization (Simchi-Levi, Kaminsky and Simchi-levi, 2007). Most creating nations are trapped in a split stick. While understanding the requirement for ecological activity, they likewise require expanding mechanical movement for accomplishing monetary development and neediness easing targets, exercises that involve clear improvements in nursery outflow. They are furthermore compelled by their absence of assets and don't wish to redirect what is accessible from formative needs. Many creating nations additionally experience the ill effects of absence of important framework and immature lawful and legal frameworks to have the option to complete bargain commitments in a sorted out and fundamental way. (Chime and Russell, 2002) Whilst numerous global understandings are worded to guarantee their lawful authoritative on signatory countries, these settlements don't get enforceable inside a nation until their order into local law is finished. Australia, for instance, has marked on the Montreal Protocol and the World Heritage Convention and completed suitable residential enactment. Aside from taking these authoritative measures, the country has sanctioned a few laws for ecological guideline. (Lyster, 2004) The Environment insurance and Biodiversity Act, 1999, is a key enactment that offers impact to the countryââ¬â¢s universal law commitments. Various different establishments like the revised Fisheries Management Act, 1991, The Maritime Legislation Amendment (Prevention of Pollution from Ships) Act, 2006, the Protection of the Sea (Harmful Anti-fouling Systems) Act 2006 additionally progress in the direction of upgrading ecological security and aligning the local lawful framework with its global arrangement commitments. (Australian Legal Information Institute, 2007) Domestic establishment of new laws, (just as change of existing laws) is important in light of the fact that it makes the countryââ¬â¢s duty towards global natural laws concrete and their arrangements enforceable. Without explicit residential enactment little move can be made against ecological guilty parties and controlling natural corruption turns out to be well near unthinkable. Contrasted with the Australian methodology, which includes legitimate institution and unflinching authorization of global law commitments, the activities embraced by a creating nation like Bangladesh seem, by all accounts, to be essentially lacking. The nation, (which got free just in 1971), drafted a wide running natural approach in 1991 however is still to sanction any of its significant highlights into law despite the fact that sixteen years have gone since. Elements like inside conflict, absence of created legitimate frameworks, and rare assets, have kept the nation from pushing ahead on natural activity. While economies like India and South Africa have had the option to gain critical ground on the natural front, many creating nations in Africa, Asia and South America share Bangladeshââ¬â¢s issues and are in this way unfit or reluctant to submit to universal ecological law commitments. (Mastny and French, 2002) 3. End The natural shortcomings in rules of universal strategy render numerous ecological arrangements basically trivial. Seeing the degraded non usage of most natural bargains by creating countries, universal associations are looking for better approaches to toughen these understandings. While most such laws force barely any punishments, peer pressure is developing as a powerful apparatus for this reason. A few arrangements additionally request that countries report on the advancement of guarantees settled on at the hour of understanding. Past influence and humiliation, exchange motivating forces additionally help in making sure about consistence. Individuals from the Montreal Protocol, for instance, are taboo to buy CFCs or items containing them from countries that have not consented to the arrangement, a condition that has driven numerous countries to join the bargain and make a move to lessen ozone exhaustion. (Ringer and Russell, 2002) International offices, thoughtful countries and NGOs can empower delicate laws through financing choices and open battles. Delicate laws will in general build up specific desires or make a worldwide outlook that would then be able to frame the reason for increasingly perpetual understandings. An enormous piece of the powerlessness of creating countries to follow up on accord happens due to their neediness and compelled assets. Reviewing this irregularity will rely to a great extent upon giving money related and specialized help to creating countries and guaranteeing that assets are all around spent. Comfort wasnââ¬â¢t something women were used to while working in the mills, especially in the boarding houses where they stayed. Unmarried women who worked in the Lowell mills lived in boarding houses within the area. A widow was usually the supervisor in these places and was responsible for the moral and physical well being of the girls. The women were required to pay about a dollar a week to live there and the money was taken directly out of their paychecks. About 30 women lived in the boarding houses with about six living in each room. I was fortunate enough to have both a mother and a father who stressed the importance of excelling academically because attending an inner city, LA county, public school did not instill a love of academics in myself or my peers. Our teachers had checked out, the curriculum was not inspiring or relatable, and everyday there was yet another fight happening during recess. As time went on I witnessed my classmates and I take completely different paths. The strong support system I had at home proved effective. As I went on to go to college, many of my peers dropped out, the dismal state of our public school system had clearly failed them. During my undergraduate studies, the stories of my old classmates did not leave my mind. I remained dee ply intrigued with the struggles of inner city people of color and the mobility they are granted. I began to volunteer at ArtStart, a non profit program that taught previously incarcerated youth the art of poetry, and I was immediately intrigued by the stories of what had led these children to a life of crime at such a young age. In these students, I saw my childhood friends who had went down the same path many years before and I wanted to know why; where did the disconnect between the school systemShow MoreRelatedAsian American Assimilation Into American Society1669 Words à |à 7 PagesFrom Chinatown to Monterey Park, Asian Americans across the boundaries of Los Angeles are flourishing from bustling inner cities to middle class suburbia. I started walking backwards as soon as I got out of the car. There was no one in the parking lot, but I wasnââ¬â¢t sure if anyone could see me from a distance. It wasnt a nice day out, but it also wasnt raining. I was still hoping I would encounter a fair amount of people. I back peddled my way to the trail and saw three girls in the distance, they were standing around taking in the scenery. One girl saw me almost instantly, and then I had all three girls looking at me with perplexed looks. As I began to walk closer they all seemed to get wrapped up in themselves, and they didnââ¬â¢t look at me or say anything as I walked by. So I kept walking and got one last quick glance before I rounded a corner. I walked past a Jogger on the trail that Just didnt seem to notice or care. I took a seat on a bench to rest my legs. Its harder to walk up and down hills hen you are walking backwards. I saw a couple coming down the trail, so I stood up and started walking backwards about 10 feet in front of them. The female didnt look at me, but the male looked and didnt seem to care if I noticed him eyeing the situation. He even had a half smile on his face when he was trying to figure things out. I walked for a few minutes like this until I got to an area before a bridge crossing, so I pulled off the trail to the side to let the couple pass me. Neither greeted nor even looked at me. Also on my way back up the trail, I encountered two men holding hands n a bench, both greeted me as I walked by and one asked Are you having fun? , to which I replied Yes, thank you. . Those were the only people I saw during my hour trek around the park. I took careful account of the reactions I got from the different people I encountered. Each group of people that I met placed some type of informal social sanctions upon me. The females that I saw seemed to be closed off, ignoring me like I wasnt the re. The runner Just didnt seem to care or notice what I was doing. The couple noticed me, but it seemed the male and female reacted differently. Like he previous females I had encountered, the girl seemed to be closed off wanting nothing to do with me. But the guy seemed amused and thought the situation was a little humorous. I think because it was slightly dangerous and stupid what I was doing (walking down a slick trail in the park backwards), but it definitely made me feel like the odd one out. None of these people wanted to be associated with me Just because I was walking backwards. The two males (who I assume to be homosexual) seemed more comfortable and accepting with me violating a norm. Perhaps being gay and falling outside the social norm allows them to be more secure when ncountering other norm violations. When I walked past people at the park it was kind of funny. On the inside I was thinking how stupid this must look, and how it wasnt even practical to walk like this. My inner cop was telling me that it wasnt rational and slightly dangerous. If I were to slip or fall into anyone else while I was doing it, it would be my fault. I wouldnt say it was uncomfortable not conforming to a social norm. But the norm violation itself was uncomfortable. Walking backwards is harder to do then walking forwards, and it hurts your neck having to look over your houlder for the whole walk. The experience was definitely an interesting look at how it must feel to be an outsider. This experiment helped to prove that social norms are significant in society. I wasnt sure how people would react, but it seemed evident that conformity has a strong impact on people. I got to see how peoples personalities change when someone is breaking a simple everyday social norm. Walking backwards instead of walking forwards sets you apart from people and it makes you the odd one out. This was a very simple experiment, but also happened to end up being a lot of fun. beckymitche70http://www.blogger.com/profile/05125864134427504336noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5011332376576407889.post-60124217483715923382020-04-13T11:39:00.001-07:002020-04-13T11:39:02.442-07:00Arthur MillerBIO essaysArthur MillerBIO essays With The Death of a Salesman during the winter of 1949 on Broadway, Arthur Miller began to live as a playwright who has since been called one of this century's three great American dramatists by the people of America. The dramatist was born in Manhattan in October 17, 1915, to Isadore and Agusta Miller, a conventional, well to do Jewish couple. Young Arthur Miller was an intense athlete and a weak scholar. Throughout his youth he was molded into one of the most creative playwrights America has ever seen, without these priceless childhood experiences there would have never have been the basis and foundation for his great works. During his bright career as playwright he demonstrated extreme talent on two of his greatest pieces The Crucible and the Death of a Salesman. He has also written other powerful, often mind-altering plays: A View from the Bridge, A Memory of Two Mondays, After the Fall, Incident at Vichy, and The Price. Who could forget the film The Misfits and the dramatic special Playing for Time. Death of a Salesman was not Arthur Miller's first success on Broadway. His first plays were Honors at Dawn (1936) and No Villain (1937) which won the University of Michigan Hopwood Awards. His Death of a Salesman won the Pulitzer prize in 1949, which was another proof of his excellent talent. Miller wrote The Crucible in 1953 during the McCarthy period when Americans were accusing each other of Pro-Communist beliefs. Many of Miller's friends were being attacked as Communists and in 1956, Miller himself was brought before the House of Un-American Activities Committee where he was found guilty of beliefs in Communism. The verdict was reversed in 1957 in an appeals court. The Crucible is set against the backdrop of the mad witch-hunts of the Salem witch trials in the late 17th century. It is about a town, after accusations from a few girls, which begins a mad hunt for witches that did not exist. The Australian education structure has not been left behind in the globalization process. It is for this reason that its education system is informed by changes in the society and promoted by top quality teaching, which is encouraged by critical thinking and compound global perspectives. This education system also seeks to expand studentsââ¬â¢ capacity to be vital consumers of information from the media, analyze information, develop arguments, tackle unfairness; grow compassion for others, and arbitrate conflicts (Bliss, 2003, p 3). The first part of this paper will therefore seek to examine the concept of globalization in light of the Australian education system and seek to analyze the extent to which globalization has affected the Australian education system. This will focus on technologies and mechanisms that hav e been introduced in the Australian education system. The second part of this paper will in part be addressed the impact of globalization on Australian education based on sociology and will thus lay emphasis on the impact of globalization on the interaction of students in the Australian education centers. ... Australian students have thus developed their own perception and have used this perception to interpret and judge the behavior, lifestyle and standard of other people. To overcome this problem, the students are encouraged to reflect on how human perspectives are shaped by gender, age, creed, ethnicity, culture, class, geographical location, language, nationality, race and ideology. The challenge is therefore for the teachers to encourage students to appreciate the limitations of the perspectives they have developed, and challenge each otherââ¬â¢s assumptions by promoting differing views that inject new ideas and perceptions of the world. This kind of thinking is known to encourage pluralist views, thereby enabling students to appreciate and respect beliefs, values and customs that are different from their own. This highly radical Australian global education seeks to prepare Australian students to live in this highly globalized world by acquiring a succinct understanding of a rapid ly shifting cultural, environmental, economic, technological and global trend. The Australian global education seeks to support this assertion that the globalization theory and the globalization practice are linked with one another. This is because such a global education instills principles and values that enable the students to become better citizens of the universe. Most of this global educational change in Australia has been occasioned by rapid technological and multicultural changes that have revolutionized the global education systems. The technological improvements have made learning much easier and informed a rapid exchange of ideas and information. These advanced technologies have now been beckymitche70http://www.blogger.com/profile/05125864134427504336noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5011332376576407889.post-85434548210137983932020-02-07T18:26:00.001-08:002020-02-07T18:26:02.335-08:00Fruit Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 wordsFruit - Essay Example Sit tight, this is going to be one intellectually enlightening experience. According to Rakesh Mohan Hallen (ââ¬Å"Taste and Smellâ⬠) the chemical composition of fruits dictate the flavor that we taste within it. He further explains that: ââ¬Å"During the process of the ripening of a fruit or roasting or frying a papad the chemical substances present in them undergo some chemical changes, which transforms the structure of some of the molecules that elicit a particular taste.(Allen,Rakesh, Mohan, ââ¬Å"Taste and Smellâ⬠). This would mean that the level of fructose, glucose, acid, and citric aid within fruits dictate the final sweetness or sourness of the ripened fruit (Mawuli, 2011). Seed dispersal is actually an interesting topic of which very little is known. What we do know however, is that the ripening of a fruit helps in seed dispersal because the seed pods of over ripened fruits tend to burst open thus scattering the seeds into the wind for depositing over vast land areas. Humans have also helped in propagating seed dispersal because of our tendency to carry fruit trees and plants that we consider decorative when we migrate from one place to another thus allowing for the spread of fruit and vegetable crops throughout various territories. (Hodag, 2011). However, considering that human beings tend to create fecal matter that is not deposited back into the soil but rather in sewer systems and land fills, human beings tend to disrupt the balance when it comes to seed dispersal because the seeds do not get back into the soil as a fertilizer as it would normally do when consumed by wild animals and the like. Now as we all know, polysaccharides, also known as starch, is a molecule that is not easily digested in its original form. It must be broken down into simpler forms such as fructose, which is a monosaccharide, in order to metabolize it. In fruits, these beckymitche70http://www.blogger.com/profile/05125864134427504336noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5011332376576407889.post-1901525348529963932020-01-29T11:33:00.001-08:002020-01-29T11:33:04.293-08:00Article Review of Organizational Culture Essay Example for Free Article Review of Organizational Culture Essay It was not expected that the hierarchical model would be dominant given the previous attempt to change the culture. The altruistic values of those surveyed indicated they are committed to social development and public interests and are most comfortable with a hierarchical dominate culture. The sample size of 530 participants obtained from the Public Sector Directory was an adequate size. All of the executives in the directory were included in the survey, which suggests a less than random selection process for the final candidates. However, the six varied departments selected represented central coordination, infrastructure provision and social services. Although an almost two to one ratio of male to female employee responses were utilized, none of the demographic variables collected in section C of the three part survey affected the perceptions of the current culture. Sections A and B of the survey gathered information on character, managers, cohesion, emphases and rewards. Results indicated that Departments A ââ¬â D preferred the internal process or group culture. Department E preferred the internal process model, but it was equally comfortable with rational goal model indicating goal fulfillment was a requirement. Department F results indicated a comfort level with the rational goal model most likely due to their interactive responsibilities with other departments. Forcing change from a formalized, rules and rewards based culture to a more flexible, decentralized culture could create individual-organization value conflict resulting in stress. Of the population surveyed only 191, 36%, was usable and the male respondents outnumbered the female respondents nearly 3 to 1. The survey, divided into three sections dealing with perceptions of the current culture, respondent ideal culture, and demographic information. The survey reviled 4 out of 6 public sector departments in the study held to the traditional model. The findings also suggest organizational culture is driven at the non-managerial employee level and the deeply embedded cultural values canââ¬â¢t be forced any form of management. The article mentions the constant state of transition is the Queensland government over a twenty year period; employees may value the stability and predictability of the traditional bureaucratic model. Base on the research and finding in the article, culture change must target the organization at the non-managerial level in order for the culture change to be effective. In order for Queensland traditionally bureaucratic organizations to embrace high performing teams, the change must address the needs of the driving force of the traditional model culture; the non-managerial employees. In forming high performing teams for the Queensland public sector, it is important to investigate the factors/components of those teams. Also, because most teams are unique in their goals and focus, there is no off the shelf solution for all teams (Davenport, 2001) and that there is no singular, uniform measure of performance effectiveness for groups (Guzzo and Dickson, 1996. p. 309). By creating a customized plan for transitioning, Queensland public sector can move from a control hierarchical organizational culture to a culture of change, flexibility, and productivity. The Queensland public sector was managed for so many decades using the top down management that the culture of the organizations productivity depended on it. The results of the study can be supported by the need for stability which can only be changed by small adjustment to small changes (Bhide 2010). The culture of the organization is controlled by political authority, so it was not surprising that a hierarchical process model was so deeply rooted in to the essence of the government employees who understood the leadership values (Goodwin and Neck, 1998). Organizations lack of understanding of their members caused employees to be less adaptable to change, and with that less productive. Employees will move to do only their specific functions and only respond to the tasks directed by their manager, which is contradicting to the desired results of flexibility, and supports the article results (Miller S 2009). ââ¬Å"Beyond top-down and bottom-up work redesignâ⬠, explains ââ¬Å"Authority is traditionally conceptualized as hierarchicalâ⬠, but the informal authority operates day to day work of organizations. This proved to be true for the Queensland public sector with few exceptions such as a high commitment to the rules and the attention to details. These changes have also been achieved on a federal level with similar setbacks who still managed to overcome the existing dominant culture (189). Just because the organization is not dominated by the ââ¬Å"new managerialist thinkingâ⬠as stated in ââ¬Å"Organisational culture in the public sectorâ⬠article, Sting and Loch explain that this does not mean that there is not a need for a ââ¬Å"bottom-up participationâ⬠which was part of the work environment before the values of the employees were, in a way, forced to be changed for unexplained reasons to them. As a result of such, this did cause setbacks in the cultural change that was attempted. Changing the value of a large group of people within the company is next to impossible when itââ¬â¢s so closely tied to their private beliefs such as the members of the Queensland public sector. In order to move from a hierarchical process model of an organization to a more flexible and change oriented one, organizations must first understand their employees preferred organizational structure, and then create a corporate culture which employees can slowly get accustom to. In the case of six organizations in the Queensland public sector, the transformation required a culture change from the ââ¬Å"Mechanisticâ⬠to ââ¬ËOrganicâ⬠organizational structure and this should have been done very slowly only after understanding the values of those involved. One easy way to get this information is to have employees perform a self-assessment. Because ââ¬Å"a corporate culture is influenced by the industry in which the organization operatesâ⬠, outside factors such as political control have to be considered in a path taken to change employees assumptions, values, and artifacts (McGraw-Hill Companies, 2002-2009). Before an organization can move from a hierarchical process to a more flexible one employees must understand the benefits of shifting their culture from ââ¬Å"controlâ⬠to ââ¬Å"performanceâ⬠, where their input is valued. Through our research and critical analysis of the six organizations in the Queensland public sector, it is evident to us that the paradigm public organizations are functioning in will not change easily. Though the employees have to be able to accept change and shift, employers must understand that the need to create an environment that fosters a corporate cultural environment is vital. Change is inevitable but a positive response to the change is not. Without the strategic planning of organizational leaders, we will continue to see results like we saw with the six organizations in Queensland; the entire organization has to be a part of the implementation, intimately, in order for it to be effective. Unfortunately, when employees of any organization settle for the ââ¬Å"norm,â⬠they will not only resist change but they will fear it. beckymitche70http://www.blogger.com/profile/05125864134427504336noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5011332376576407889.post-2467051491325120002020-01-21T07:57:00.001-08:002020-01-21T07:57:03.191-08:00Cato the Elder and Julius Caesar Essay -- Roman HistoryThe Roman Republic's most memorable men are Cato the Elder and Julius Caesar. Each man gained unfathomable power over the greatest nation of the world for its time. Our world today continues to feel the affects of Caesar, who developed the modern day calendar system (Suet. Caesar, 40). Both men changed Rome and added to its rich and nobel history. Ancient biographers, Plutarch and Suetonius, give insightful glimpses into to the lives of Cato and Caesar, and what formed them into history makers. Through careful analysis of Cato and Caesar's biographies, it becomes apparent that they shared similar skills and values that vaulted them to the top of Roman society. However, they were strikingly different in how they used their skills and lived their lives. Although the lives of Cato and Caesar are similar in many respects, the biographies of Plutarch and Suetonius reveal that personality and family background are the main causes for their differences. Commonalities between Cato and Caesar abound in Suetonius and Plutarch's biographies. The most apparent similarity is physical appearance and ability. Cato followed a sober mode of living and trained hard to attain ââ¬Å" a tough constitution and a body which was as strong as it was healthyâ⬠(P1). In battle Cato was a ââ¬Å"formidable fighter, who stood his ground resolutely and and confronted his opponents with a ferocious expression ââ¬Å" (P1). Caesar was also strong in body and battle. He was ââ¬Å"tall fair and well built,â⬠and he was ââ¬Å"a most skillful swordsman and horseman, and showed surprising powers of enduranceâ⬠(s45,57). The enormous number of victories left by Caesar are testimony to his skill as general and fighter. Similarity in strength is only one part of dom... ...ter, Julia, like a game piece and married her to pompey to form an alliance. Caesar's personality has clearly shown through in these examples of marriage and offspring. On the other hand, Cato views his offspring and marriage in a much different light.. Due to his sense of hard work and care for family, Cato believes strongly that if he puts effort into his son's education he will be rewarded with a son to be proud of. This turns out to be true because Cato receives a letter from his son's commander, in which his son is praised ââ¬Å"in the highest terms for his gallantryâ⬠(plu. 20). Also, Cato only had one wife at a time, and only remarried after his first wife died (plu. 24). Compared to Caesar, Cato's moral nature is clearly shining through. To achieve this, a third-party must offer enough incentive to both the Arabic and Jewish states and create a sovereign Palestinian state. This is not a very probable outcome, as the conflict is rooted in the peoplesââ¬â¢ traditions and beliefs making it much harder to compromise. I predict this conflict will end in the overwhelming takeover of the Palestinian and Holy Land area by the militarily superior Israelites and the trampling of the Arab people. Conflict over Palestine and the less well-defined, Holy Land, is deeply rooted in Middle Eastern society. Conflicting claims over the land have rocked Palestine and the surrounding states for many years. The two key actors in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict include the Jews and the Arabs. Outside actors who also have influence and interests over the area include Europe, America, and Egypt. Jewish interest in the Palestinian territory is based either religiously or with the interest of creating a Jewish state. According to religious writings and tradition, the Holy Land was promised to the Jewish people. Groups who identify religiously do not necessarily support the creation of a Jewish state. Jews who do hold interest in the creation of a Jewish state are identified as Zionists. When he was only ten years old, he moved with his mother to the Pennsylvanian countryside. There, he became neighbors and friends with the family of Oscar Hammerstein II. In his teens, Sondheim began writing musicals. When he showed Hammerstein his work, the famed lyricist explained that it was awful ââ¬â but he also told him why it was awful. An amazing mentorship began. Hammerstein provided him one-on-one instruction and advice and gave Sondheim difficult yet creative challenges which honed the young artistââ¬â¢s songwriting skills. In 1956, Sondheim was chosen to write the lyrics for Leonard Bernsteinââ¬â¢s West Side Story. Soon after, he created the lyrics for the amazingly successful Gypsy. By the early 1960s, Stephen Sondheim was ready for his compositions to premiere on Broadway. Today, he is beloved among sophisticated audiences and performers alike. Here is a list of my favorite musicals by Stephen Sondheim: #1) Into the Woods I had the pleasure of watching the original Broadway production when I was 16 years old. At the time, I absolutely loved the first act, which plays like a wonderfully crafted and complex fairy tale comedy, ideal for the entire family. During the second half, however, I was quite disturbed by all the chaos and death. The story became too much like real life. And, of course, thatââ¬â¢s the point of the show, a transition from fantasy to reality, or from adolescence to adulthood. Gradually, after listening to the soundtrack, and growing a bit older myself, I have come to love and appreciate both acts of this fun and fascinating musical. #2) Sweeney Todd Itââ¬â¢s difficult to find a more violent musical than Sweeney Todd. And itââ¬â¢s difficult to find a more haunting melody than Sondheimââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"Johanna Reprise,â⬠a hypnotic song that mixes beauty, longing, and murder. This is the story of a demented barber who seeks revenge, but goes way too far, driven mad in his lust for bloodshed. (Itââ¬â¢s one thing to reap vengeance; itââ¬â¢s another thing to stuff people into meat pies.) Despite the carnage and cannibalism, there is a dark, infectious humor throughout Sweeney Todd, elevating this dreary story to genius. #3) A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum If youââ¬â¢re looking for a show that has a simple, laugh-out-loud happy ending, then Stephen Sondheimââ¬â¢s first success as composer/lyricist is the musical for you. During the showââ¬â¢s test run in Washington, D.C., Forum received negative reviews and apathetic reactions from the audience. Fortunately, director and self-proclaimed ââ¬Å"play doctorâ⬠George Abbott suggested that they scrap the opening song, ââ¬Å"Love Is in the Air.â⬠Sondheim agreed and created the bouncy, hilarious number, ââ¬Å"Comedy Tonight.â⬠The new opening number energized Broadway audiences, eliciting laughter (and long lines at the box office). #4) Sunday in the Park with George Filled with beautiful songs and exquisite sets, Sondheimââ¬â¢s Sunday in the Park with George was inspired by the artwork of Georges Seurat, in particular his painting ââ¬Å"A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte.â⬠I love stories that examine the lives of artistic geniuses ââ¬â even if their history is fictionalized a great deal, as is the case with Sunday in the Park with George. The first act focuses on Seuratââ¬â¢s passions: his art and his mistress. The second act transitions to the 1980s, showing the struggles of a modern artist, George (the fictional grandson of Seaurat). Whenever Iââ¬â¢m working on a creative project that takes a lot of concentration, I inevitably start to sing ââ¬Å"Putting It Together,â⬠one of my favorite Sondheim tunes, and an insightful commentary on the artistic process. #5) Company For me, this is the most ââ¬Å"Sondheimishâ⬠of Stephen Sondheimââ¬â¢s musicals. The lyrics are funny, complicated, and emotional. Each song is like a cathartic experience for the characters. The basic premise: Itââ¬â¢s Robertââ¬â¢s 35th birthday. He is still unmarried, and tonight all of his married friends will be throwing him a party. In the process, Robert analyzes his life and the relationships of his friends. It ran for 705 performances on Broadway, and earned six Tony Awards. So, why do I have it as my 5th favorite Sondheim musical? Perhaps itââ¬â¢s simply a personal thing. When I was a kid, listening to show-tunes such West Side Story and Sound of Music, I was vaguely familiar with Company. I liked the songs, but I could not connect with the characters. I assumed that when I became an adult that things would change, that I would eventually like to drink coffee, discuss real estate, and behave like the characters in Company. None of those things happened. Despite my own short comings, I still enjoy the songs and the non-linear storytelling style of Company. Whatââ¬â¢s Missing? Of course, there are many other great Sondheim works that didnââ¬â¢t make my personal list. Musicals such as Follies and Assassins never struck a chord with me. Tony Award winning Passion almost made my list, but because Iââ¬â¢ve watched the video and not a live production, perhaps I wasnââ¬â¢t as entranced by the show as others have been. And what about Merrily We Roll Along? Although it flopped on Broadway, some would argue that it features Sondheimââ¬â¢s most heartfelt songs. beckymitche70http://www.blogger.com/profile/05125864134427504336noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5011332376576407889.post-82530047317862239482019-12-19T16:58:00.001-08:002019-12-19T16:58:03.707-08:00Conversely, In A Formal Exam Assessment, Some Learners Conversely, in a formal exam assessment, some learners would enjoy the challenge of an exam while other learners might feel anxious about it. A key weakness in this method is that some learners could prepare for their exams by concentrating on past exam papers which lessen the likelihood of long term learning. Also, other arrangements such as invigilation might also be required to be in place (Gravells, 2014, P.168). Self-assessment entails learners assessing their own progress as the name denotes. This could lead to learners taking responsibility by setting their own goals as well as taking ownership of their progress. In contrast, learners could build a sense achievement higher than it is worth. Therefore, there will still be a need toâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦On the other hand, a learner might benefit from a verbal examination rather than written questions while another learner might prefer to be assessed bilingually. This would then mean liaising with other members of staff or the awarding organisation to make acceptability of such options (Gravells, 2014, P171). Furthermore, mentors, workplace supervisors and witnesses alike usually need details of the learnerââ¬â¢s progress while relevant support staff will also need information about the learner so to give any required help and guidance. Overall, everyone who is involved with a particular learner needs to be aware of that learnerââ¬â¢s progress and achievement by having a regular communication (Gravells, 2014, p171). Assessment sometimes involved a learner assessing their own work and is known as self-assessment while on the other hand, learners/ students can assess one another in a process known as peer assessment. Such methods of assessment give confidence to learners to be accountable for their learning and assessment as well as taking a decision about what they have been taught already. However, the learners will need to be wholly aware of what it is that they are required to assess i.e. t he assessment criteria, the importance of being objective in their assessment and how they could give a constructive feedback to those that they assessed. While giving feedback, it is very important to make sure thatShow MoreRelatedEarly Literacy Assessment : Phonemic Awareness1414 Words à |à 6 PagesEarly Literacy Assessment Phonemic awareness is defined as the ability to distinguish sounds; a skill that allows you to listen for, count sounds, and identify distinct sounds. The phrase affirmative action was coined by President John F. Kennedy in 1961 when he issued Executive Order 10925, initiating the Presidents Committee on Equal Employment Opportunity. In 1965, President Lyndon B. Johnson issued Executive Order 11246. This order required federal contractors to take affirmative action to increase the number of minorities that they employed. Thus affirmative action was born. However, when Kennedy and Johnson established affirmative action, they did not intend for it to have the perverted and distorted effect that it currently has today. Such perversions and distortions include the hiring of unqualified workers, the causing of problems for groups it originally set out to help, and reverse discrimination that results in unfair standards into higher education and the work force. The practice of affirmative action must be stopped. The main argument for affirmative action is that it creates equal opportunity for people in the work force and for students seeking admission into higher education. However, this is not a valid point. While affirmative action creates equal opportunity for some individuals, it discriminates against others, primarily white males. Therefore, affirmative action uses reverse discrimination to solve the problem of discrimination. Do two wrongs make a right? The answer is no. The first reason affirmative action should be stopped is that employees often are hired that are not qualified to execute their jobs effectively. Many times employers are forced to find the best minority, rather than the person most qualified for the job. For example, a policy was adopted by Duke University in 1993 that required each department at the university to hire at least one new African-American for a faculty position (Pasour). However, various surveys and estimates show that less than 4,000 blacks receive Ph. D.s in the United States. This is less than two black Ph.D. s for every American college or university (Sowell). Therefore, Duke Universitys policy would force them to hire faculty that are not as qualified, due to a shortage of black Ph.D.s, as their white counterparts. The hiring of unskilled workers is also detrimental to businesses as well. The primary purpose of a business is to make money for the employer, as well as the employees. The hiring of unqualified employees is harmful to the businesss production. When employees cannot perform their specific tasks, it often leads to error, which costs the company time and money. If the business is continually paying for worker error, its profits will decrease, producing a decrease in employee pay. Many times companies are forced to hire unqualified individuals because of quotas. Often when a businesss quota is not filled it is forced to conceive unnecessary jobs for minorities, which is also decreases a companys profit. Incapable employees are a detriment to worker unity as well. If an employee is not as qualified as his or her co-worker, it may create tension and frustration between them, in turn creating another complication.. The second reason it is imperative to abolish the practice of affirmative action is that it often initiates problems for the minorities it originally intended to help. This is apparent in the work place as well as in colleges and universities. The first problem affirmative action establishes for minorities is that it places a stigma on groups who benefit from affirmative action, especially those who actually earn their position because they are qualified for it. Consider an employer who hires a member of a minority group on the basis of merit alone. Many employees automatically assume that the individuals appointment resulted from affirmative action. Thus, any employee who does benefit from affirmative action bears the brand of not being the best pick, but only the best pick from a limited group (Pasour). .u1eb7fd0797a9739e2457fa7af4f8082f , .u1eb7fd0797a9739e2457fa7af4f8082f .postImageUrl , .u1eb7fd0797a9739e2457fa7af4f8082f .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u1eb7fd0797a9739e2457fa7af4f8082f , .u1eb7fd0797a9739e2457fa7af4f8082f:hover , .u1eb7fd0797a9739e2457fa7af4f8082f:visited , .u1eb7fd0797a9739e2457fa7af4f8082f:active { border:0!important; } .u1eb7fd0797a9739e2457fa7af4f8082f .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u1eb7fd0797a9739e2457fa7af4f8082f { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u1eb7fd0797a9739e2457fa7af4f8082f:active , .u1eb7fd0797a9739e2457fa7af4f8082f:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u1eb7fd0797a9739e2457fa7af4f8082f .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u1eb7fd0797a9739e2457fa7af4f8082f .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u1eb7fd0797a9739e2457fa7af4f8082f .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u1eb7fd0797a9739e2457fa7af4f8082f .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u1eb7fd0797a9739e2457fa7af4f8082f:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u1eb7fd0797a9739e2457fa7af4f8082f .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u1eb7fd0797a9739e2457fa7af4f8082f .u1eb7fd0797a9739e2457fa7af4f8082f-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u1eb7fd0797a9739e2457fa7af4f8082f:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Salem Witch Trials Essay The second problem it creates for minorities in the workplace is the loss of spirit and vitality for their jobs. If workers feel that the sole reason they are employed is to fill a quota, they may lack pride in their jobs, which in turn hinders their performance. In addition, minoritiess problems due to affirmative action are not exclusive to the work place. Many college and university minority students also experience the conundrums of affirmative action. At colleges in North Carolina, black students recently stated that they were treated like affirmative action cases even though they were not. Professors, seeking to help, asked them if they needed tutoring or other assistance, already assuming the black students lack of qualifications (Pasour). The third, and perhaps major, reason that affirmative action should be stopped is the issue of reverse discrimination. Affirmative action uses reverse discrimination to solve the problem of discrimination. Discrimination against whites, in particular males, is just as wrong as discrimination against minorities. As are many problems of affirmative action, reverse discrimination is present in both the workplace and in institutions of higher education. Reverse discrimination in the work place is a phenomenon associated with white males. White male job applicants who are qualified to receive a job are often discarded for under-qualified minorities because of quotas set forth by affirmative action. In the most extreme cases, white males have been fired to make room for minorities. For example, the Northern Natural Gas Company of Omaha, Nebraska, was forced by the government to release sixty-five white male workers to make room for minority employees in 1977 (Sowell). This act is extremely unfair to white males and is a pure form of discrimination. Many advocates of affirmative action argue that affirmative action is a form of retribution for past discrimination minorities experienced. However most minorities entering the job market today were born after the emergence of affirmative action, in 1964, and have suffered little prejudice in terms of salary. Reverse discrimination is not only a great injustice in the work place, but it is present in admissions to colleges and universities as well. However, it does not exclusively pertain to white males in this context, but Asian-Americans as well. Therefore, affirmative action is not even inclusive of all of the minorities, but rather a select few. Just as the white employee has to have higher credentials to receive a job, so do white and Asian-American college applicants. Colleges and universities often have quotas set by the government, as businesses do, that ensure that they have enough minorities in their incoming freshmen class. An example is the admission practices at the University of California at Berkeley. A 1995 report released by the university said that 9. 7 percent of all applicants were African-Americans. Of these 9.7 percent accepted, 0.8 percent of these African-American students were accepted on academic merit alone. The percentage of white students accepted by Berkeley totaled 36.8 percent. Of the 36.8 percent white students accepted, 47. 9 percent were accepted on academic merit alone (Affirmative Action). Thus the number of African-American students accepted because of non-academic circumstances was approximately sixty times greater than that of their white counterparts. Another interesting fact that was included in the study was the comparison of grade point averages and SAT scores. The average grade point average for a rejected white student was 3. 66 with an SAT score of 1142. The average grade point average for an accepted African-American student was 3.66 with an SAT score of 1030 (Affirmative Action). These statistics demonstrate the reverse discrimination against white college applicants due to affirmative action. In addition, many competent applicants are being refused admission, which is alarming due to the fact that only 27 percent of African-Americans graduate, whereas 66 percent of white or Asian-Americans graduate. Many people look forward to the day when employment and admission to colleges and universities will depend on an individuals qualifications and ability, regardless of the color of their skin or their gender. However, the United States has not reached that point yet. In order to reach this point we must devise an alternative to replace affirmative action, because as long as affirmative action is in effect there will always be racial tension. .u90ad44de8d5d5f6c17e8726c897d022a , .u90ad44de8d5d5f6c17e8726c897d022a .postImageUrl , .u90ad44de8d5d5f6c17e8726c897d022a .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u90ad44de8d5d5f6c17e8726c897d022a , .u90ad44de8d5d5f6c17e8726c897d022a:hover , .u90ad44de8d5d5f6c17e8726c897d022a:visited , .u90ad44de8d5d5f6c17e8726c897d022a:active { border:0!important; } .u90ad44de8d5d5f6c17e8726c897d022a .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u90ad44de8d5d5f6c17e8726c897d022a { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u90ad44de8d5d5f6c17e8726c897d022a:active , .u90ad44de8d5d5f6c17e8726c897d022a:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u90ad44de8d5d5f6c17e8726c897d022a .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u90ad44de8d5d5f6c17e8726c897d022a .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u90ad44de8d5d5f6c17e8726c897d022a .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u90ad44de8d5d5f6c17e8726c897d022a .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u90ad44de8d5d5f6c17e8726c897d022a:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u90ad44de8d5d5f6c17e8726c897d022a .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u90ad44de8d5d5f6c17e8726c897d022a .u90ad44de8d5d5f6c17e8726c897d022a-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u90ad44de8d5d5f6c17e8726c897d022a:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Michael Jackson Essay Such an alternative would be the strengthening of the ?intermediate institutions, such as community associations, schools, media, and independent social agencies, which provide the organizational foundation for collective development and effective public representation (Sterlitz). In essence, if the same amount of capital was extended to minority institutions, the minority society would eventually become more developed and give the much needed guidance to individuals, therefore enabling them to play a major part in society. Affirmative action was first introduced by President John F. Kennedy and President Lyndon B. Johnson. In the time since Kennedy and Johnson, affirmative action has been severely distorted. Both presidents intended for this policy to stop discrimination, not simply reverse it. However, as shown in the foregoing discussion, the problems of affirmative action include hiring of unskilled employees, the establishment of problems for minorities it was originally suppose to help, and the basis for reverse discrimination. beckymitche70http://www.blogger.com/profile/05125864134427504336noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5011332376576407889.post-51143655211577587592019-12-04T01:23:00.001-08:002019-12-04T01:23:03.019-08:00Windhover By Hopkins Essays - Eschatology, Christian Theology Windhover By Hopkins In Gerard Manley Hopkins' poem "The Windhover" there is a sort of representational allusion to Christ and Jesus. In other words the speaker praises the Lord by praising what he takes as a symbol for Christ, the windhover himself. Through out the poem the speaker symbolizes Christ's glory by the way the falcon reacts to the air how it maneuvers and even charcteristic traits of the falcon species. One could only appreciate the glory of the Lord more after interpreting the poem. The poem is subtitled "To Christ our Lord" because the falcon reminds him of Christ. The speaker continuously hails one of God's most stunning creatures, the falcon. He is flabbergasted at the magnificence of the windhover's flight. He wonders at its colorful feathers and the sheer speed of its flight. His tone suggests that he is in awe...he is observing something equivalent second coming of Jesus or angels walking among regular men. He throws out a barrage visual imagery to try to describe the windhover and still does not seem to come close to its real magnificence. He wonders how such a creature could exist but is eventually just filled with glee in knowing the fact that it does exist. In the first stanza the speaker states that he spotted the morning's minion as if to suggest that the falcon was some how subservient to the morning. He suggests that there is some sort of royal heiarchy by using words that recall images of sovereignty. Once the reader scratches the surface of the first stanza he can begin to understand the remainder of the poem. The second stanza takes a different stance on things. The windhover is out maneuvering when a smoothly and suddenly dives. The speakers is scared for the birds' safety but is pleasantly surprised when the bird is lifted by a huge wind. One can say that in times of foolish pleasure he can fall but Christ will always lift be there to lift him back up. Christ is thus the cushion needed for even a temporary fall from grace. Stanza three uses a barrage of descriptive words to denote the dignity of such a creature. In the animal kingdom it would be considered king of the roost. The speaker call the windhover a chevalier meaning knight or in other words a savior. Christ is also considered a savior. The speaker compares the bird and Christ with the hard work of the plow that creates a furrow and displays the wet soil underneath and burned embers that shine red-gold when split open and burn with fire. That is directly comparable to assumption that the speaker was leading a dark life until the Lord stirred up his life, split open his dark shell and helped him to shine with a new vigor for life. Christ could be seen in nature in the windhover's existence. He is symbolized in all the actions of the falcon and also represented in its charactaeristics. The speaker praises the Lord by his amazed praise and represented in its characteristics. The speaker praises the Lord by his amazed praise and appreciation. What he seems to be saying is that Christ exists in even the smaller details in life and all we have to do is observe them periodically to know that Christ lives on. beckymitche70http://www.blogger.com/profile/05125864134427504336noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5011332376576407889.post-6505450829609599122019-11-27T21:21:00.001-08:002019-11-27T21:21:02.525-08:00Loopholes in Afghanistans War Against Terrorism Agreement free essay sample A discussion on the way in which the Afghanistan government does not benefit from allowing military attacks and siding with the U.S. in the war against terrorism. In The Curse of the Pharaohs (1981), Amelia is reluctant for her husband to stand guard over a tomb. He asks if sheââ¬â¢s afraid sheââ¬â¢ll find him in the morning ââ¬Å"weltering in his own gore.â⬠The novelââ¬â¢s setting is the nineteenth century, so the use of the phrase is right on target. It was quite popular with journalists of the 1800s: There lay the criminal, weltering in his gore, on the grass in the yard. newspaper account of the execution of William Cocroft, Salt Lake City, 1861 Alonzo Bee, a son of the farmer hastened to the Doyle residence, where upon entering, the horrible sight of three human beings weltering in their own gore met his gaze. account of a murder, 1883 An 1808 reading textbook. (then in its 9th edition). designed for the use of schools includes this description of a man who survived a murderous attack with the help of his faithful dog. The man was found wounded, scalped, weltering in his own gore, and faint with the loss of blood. The dog was credited with saving its masterââ¬â¢s life by licking the wound. Both weltering and gore have a place in this 1922 National Geographic story about a drawing that depicts the dedication of a temple to Huitzilipochtli: To this is attached, on the right, the figure of a priest who has just sacrificed a human victim, the latter pictured as dying on the ground, weltering in his own blood. To the left is the great temple of the War God, the stairway being shown as plentifully besprinkled with the gore of the hecatomb of victims. In current usage weltering in gore isnââ¬â¢t entirely gone. Hereââ¬â¢s an example from the movie review of a documentary about an Australian criminal: [Chopper is] alternately shocking and hilarious, as Chopper launches a vicious attack on a fellow inmate and then, as his victim is literally weltering in his gore, takes pity on him and offers him a cigarette. DVD Times. Too bad the writer thought it necessary to insert the ââ¬Å"literally.â⬠Whether classed as a clichà © or not, the phrase is wonderfully expressive on its own. The word gore has several meanings. As a noun gore can mean ââ¬Å"clotted blood,â⬠as in the weltering expression. It can also mean ââ¬Å"a triangular piece of ground.â⬠The surname Gore comes from this land sense. And gore can mean a ââ¬Å"triangular piece of clothâ⬠used in sewing to make a ââ¬Å"gored skirtâ⬠or to enlarge an article of clothing. As a verb gore means ââ¬Å"to pierce or stab.â⬠It is usually used to describe the action of a horned animal. Ex. The toreador was gored by the bull. Both the verb and the noun with triangular connotations derive from an OE word for spear: gar. The point of the Anglo-Saxon gar was triangular in shape. The origin of the noun in the sense of ââ¬Å"clotted bloodâ⬠is OE gor, ââ¬Å"dirt, dung, shit.â⬠The sense ââ¬Å"clotted bloodâ⬠had developed by the1560s. Like gore, welter has more than one meaning, both as noun and verb. As a verb, welter means ââ¬Å"to roll or twist the body.â⬠It can also be used to describe the rolling, writhing motion of inanimate objects. Ex. The ship weltered in the waves. As a noun, welter can mean ââ¬Å"a confused mass.â⬠Ex. a welter of contradictions, a welter of fans, a welter of evidence, a welter of misunderstandings. Agree or disagree - Essay Example But in the todayââ¬â¢s times where a lot of insight and literature is available on business ethics, empowered by forces such as the media and civilian Watchdogs; ignorance is indeed not an excuse. Most of the literature available on ethics is dominated by rhetoric without accommodating the everyday practical situations that businesses deal with and without an adequate framework. There is also a wide array of ethical theories and explanations that are present, each one holding a particular merit, but the lack of uniformity and coherence makes it hard to standardize or decide on a single formula or framework to deal with such issues. Thus, this paper aims to critically assess an Ethical dilemma with a very objective outlook. This paper aims to systematically present the problem backed by facts and then present a legal and ethical analysis of the facts, without a bias towards either side. And ultimately using this analysis to present a very carefully constructed judgment. While incre ased globalization has opened up many new markets for trade, it has also increased competition among businesses to capture market share. Competition is naturally deemed as healthy, but it can also lead to practices that circumvent the existing socioethical status quos and thus lead to ethical dilemmas. 1 (Richard M. Locke, 2002) As per observations, increased competition leads to firms looking up for newer and more innovative ways to differentiate their products and services. Hooters, an American chain of fast food restaurants, is another such company that has made the use of a rather unconventional and unorthodox medium of differentiating itself, which in its case is female sex appeal. This strategy has been a source of debate and objection from many different circles but has also been successful in creating a market for Hooters. The extent of success and objections differs from place to place depending upon the demographic makeup of the respective locations. Our aim is to explore the many ways in which this eatery operates, analyze the potential sources of objection using legal and ethical notions and then ultimately form a judgment in context of normative ethics regarding what Hooters ought to do. To be specific, this paper will ultimately analyze the validity of the claim that Hooters is indeed an adult entertainment provider operating under the garb of a traditional fast food restaurant, and should consequently disallow the entry of children after 9 p.m. as per the usual legal norms. SUMMARY OVERVIEW: Hooters, since its inception in 1983 has openly admitted to using female sex appeal as a unique selling proposition. While doing this lies within its legal jurisdiction as protected by the American constitution and other governing laws throughout the world, the crux of the debate regarding Hooters lies in the company not classifying itself as an adult service provider. But once it does so, its market will be constricted mainly to adults, and this is what the company doesnââ¬â¢t want. The main attraction of the Hooters franchise are the Hooters Girls. The Hooters Girls are usually young, attractive females wearing a standard required uniform, the highlight of which is a White Hooters tank top and orange shorts. The clothes are meant to enhance the attraction of the body, but strictly without any nudity. The Hooters Girls are supposed to entertain and interact with the customers as part of the Hooters beckymitche70http://www.blogger.com/profile/05125864134427504336noreply@blogger.com0
